Oak Technology's Quatro(TM) System-on-a-Chip Reference Designs to Support Accelerated Technology's Nucleus(R) PLUS Real-Time Kernel

SUNNYVALE, Calif., July 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Oak Technology, Inc., a leading provider of embedded solutions for the digital imaging and digital home entertainment markets and Accelerated Technology, the embedded systems division of Mentor Graphics Corporation , today announced that Oak's Quatro system-on-a-chip (SOC) reference designs support Accelerated Technology's Nucleus PLUS real-time kernel.

Quatro is Oak's scalable, extensible architecture for constructing programmable SOCs targeted at personal imaging and printing appliances including multi-function peripherals (MFPs), direct-connect photo printers and Internet appliance printers, and any imaging or printing appliance that involves non-PC functionality. Built around industry-standard ARM(R) CPU cores and Oak's own imaging DSP core, the Quatro family of SOCs provide original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) with a fully programmable, highly integrated platform for designing full-featured controllers. Oak's Quatro SOC reference designs, consisting of both reference firmware and a reference controller board, are designed to help OEMs to achieve significant time-to-market advantage.

Oak selected Nucleus PLUS as a supported operating system for its Quatro SOC reference designs because it is robust, and compact operating system. Accelerated Technology provides strong technical support for the ARM family of CPU cores and offers full-featured optional network packages.

Robert Day, director of marketing for Accelerated Technology commented, "We are pleased to further penetrate the printer and MFP markets by being one of Oak's key technology providers for Quatro, leading SOC solution in these segments."

Neil Epstein, director of product marketing for Oak Technology's Imaging Group, said, "Working with Accelerated Technology enables Oak to offer proven operating system technology in our Quatro SOC reference designs while allowing our internal engineering team to remain focused on other unique value-add features."
